Celtic Connections 2025 Highlights

Scotland is lucky enough to have the best roots and folk music festival in the world to keep us music fans warm during the winter. Celtic Connections began last night with their opening concert celebrating the city of Glasgow and over the next few weeks the music on offer is not just the best of Scotland, but the rest of the world too.

Highlights from the Americana programme include Gretchen Peters, Madison Cunningham, Alisa Amador, Emily Scott Robinson, Ruth Moody and Rhiannon Giddens who will be playing with Dirk Powell on Monday.

Some of the best events at the festival bring together a range of artists on stage to perform together. A personal favourite event of this blog Transatlantic Sessions has the return of Julie Fowlis to the stage, alongside Teresa Williams and Larry Campbell.  Roaming Roots Revue features Yola other stars like Jill Jackson and Kathyrn Williams. There is also a tribute to the music of David Crosby featuring the Staves.

In terms of local Scottish female talent there is so much on offer with the highlight of course being Karine Polwart’s event alongside a community choir who have come together especially for the festival. Also playing two shows is KT Tunstall who is celebrating twenty years since the release of her debut album by performing it in full. Some of the other great Scottish women playing shows at the festival include Iona Fyfe, Jill Jackson, Rhona MacFarlane, kitti, Hannah Rarity, FARA and Kinnaris Quintet

I will be reviewing a few of the shows and all information can be found here at the link below:
