2020 is almost halfway over but so much has happened it already feels like a decade has passed. With albums delayed and many released in circumstances that have been difficult at best it feels important to stop and honour the music that has helped us to get through the chaos.
So here are my ten favourite albums of the year so far (in no particular order). These choices are based on how much the music personally resonated with me as a listener rather than an attempt to say what is ‘best’. Please click the links below to read my original review.
Whitney Rose – We Still Go To Rodeos
Natalia Lafourcade – Un Canto por Mexico
Laura Marling – Song For Our Daughter
Bonny Light Horseman – Bonny Light Horseman
Lucinda Williams – Good Souls Better Angels
Brandy Clark – Your Life is a Record
You can find a playlist of songs from every album I have reviewed this year here and I have updated my weekly playlist with my favourite individual songs of the year so far. Apologies for the poor representation of diverse voices – rectifying this will is my priority in the second half of the year.
Even though my actual holidays have been cancelled I still intend to take my annual two week blogging and social media break as of now. See you on the other side. Let’s hope the second half of 2020 continues to be kind us musically and kinder to us in all other ways.
Look out for the debut album by Victoria Bailey. It’s called Jesus, Red Wine & Patsy Cline. https://www.rockridgemusic.com/victoria-bailey-mgmt
